Blake - I thought you were such a great entertainer on AI. I knew you would come up with something different (and for a staunch Eagles fan this is certainly something different) but since I am open to all genres of music and am totally eclectic in my tastes I knew that there would be something on ADD that would appeal to me. My favourite tracks are: Break Anotha (because of its complexity and integral sound effects), Know my Name, Surrender, Without you (I love the high notes), Here's my hello, End of the world, 1000 miles and I got U. Liking that may tracks on your debut certainly has to be indicative of something.
I appreciate your artistic vision, which is expressed very adequately on the CD and was happily surprised by the appearance of the CD and its resemblance to an 80s vinyl record.
To be honest, I am maybe not the world's greatest fan of the beatboxing, preferring the ballads although the complexity of some arrangements and the bewildering spacey sounds on some compositions did bring a smile to my face. So far I have only listened to ADD on a cheap stereo (without real stereo effects - in my office at work - I can't wait to listen to it on my car stereo which is a lot more powerful and much more capable of reproducing sound and, of course, sound effects.
Last few points. I love the title ADD and feel it's a shame that the acronym was seized upon by some reviewers (e.g. EW) as evincing your losing your way in the creation. I love your fun and joyful-sounding songs.
Best of luck and congratulations on your debut, which I feel has been unfairly panned by some critics. Also I noticed that the disc has "a struggle on its hands" at Target (and maybe other stores) since it costs more than many of the others released today (Dec 4), whose companies have obviously negotiated discounts with retailers.
All the best, Martin Milner (the English one)
Blake The Entertainer
ADD has something for everyone. I am not the archetypal fan (some of my favourite artists being THE EAGLES and AL STEWART, for example) but I appreciate Blake's artistic vision and found much to appeal to my eclectic tastes in music. In my opinion the best songs were Break Anotha, Surender, Without you, Here's my hello, She's making me lose it, End of the world, 1000 miles and I got U. I was surprised but delighted that I liked so much off this debut album.
