1. Silence Is Golden... (Intro)
This comes from a quote that I’ve had for years which is “some say silence is golden, but I choose noise.” It’s a dub/break beat-influenced track that was live and recorded in one take with my band.
2. Break Anotha
It’s an explosion channeling my Michael Jackson, James Brown, and Curtis Mayfield. It’s a real live track with a kind of sinister message that you have to watch yourself. It’s about staying away from the evil side in all of us.
3. Gots To Get Her (Inspired by “Puttin’ On The Ritz”)
This melody is taken from Irving Berlin’s “Puttin’ on the Ritz.” I’m honored that I am the first person in history to be able to use this melody in an original composition. I’ve been very influenced by jazz, and this melody is an amazing piece of jazz history.
4. Know My Name (featuring Lupe Fiasco)
This is the first song I recorded on the album. It’s influenced by two of my favorite artists in the last 10 years, Nikka Costa and Robin Thicke. I’m very honored that Lupe Fiasco blessed the track with his 16 bars. This song is for anyone who’s ever had a celebrity crush.
5. How Many Words
This is one of my favorite cuts on this album. I was really inspired to write this. I got out of an in and out relationship, and this song is a big metaphor for that.
6. Surrender
This is one of the first beats Ryan Tedder played for me and I knew I wanted it on my album. There’s something sexy about this beat and it’s a moody, trance-y track. It fits me to a T.
7. Hate 2 Love Her
Ryan Tedder and I wrote this in Pittsburgh from midnight to four in the morning. I love the song. It’s very piano driven.
8. Without You
I love the melody of this song. It’s got this classic tone that you think you’ve heard in your Beatles past, but it’s completely original. It’s a fun song to sing.
9. Here's My Hello
One of my favorite choruses on the record. I wrote this on a nice, hot day on a rooftop in NY with Sam and Sluggo and sweated my ass off for another 4 hours singing it in the vocal booth. It’s an 80s inspired song. It’s a fun song to get on this album.
10. What'cha Got 2 Lose?
Written with my best bud, my best homie, Chris Richardson, on the tour bus. This song is a rollercoaster ride through funky beats, robotic vocals, and Michael Jackson’s past. Produced by JR Rotem. I had an amazing time putting this song together and helped co-produce it.
11. She’s Makin’ Me Lose
It It was a dream to make this track with BT, my favorite producer of all time. I had the opportunity to open for BT many years ago, and that’s what brought this track on. Inspired by Prince, I wrote the lyrics and melody and let the genius of BT go to work.
12. Bshorty Grabs Mic!
Not many people know me as ‘BShorty’ but I’ve been BShorty since I became a professional 8 years ago. Just a fun beat box track rooted in old school hip hop turntablism.
13. End Of The World
Sam Waters and I wrote this together. Coming from my acapella past, this song is very big vocally but still has a small and simple tone. It’s almost melancholy.
14. 1000 Miles
This came from a line in my journal which said “a voice rang out a thousand miles away.” Mike Elizondo had this guitar riff going in the studio, and I freestyled the melody. David Hodges and I wrote the lyrics, and we finished that song in a day.
15. I Got U
This is a nice ballad. Ryan Tedder came up with the melody, and we wrote the song the same day as “Hate 2 Love Her.” It’s another exciting piece of music to come out of Pittsburgh.
16. ...I Choose Noise (Outro)
The closing of the album, bringing back the first song. This last piece of music was the final song recorded for this project, live with my band. Attached to me by my guitar strap, all vocals were going through my chaos pad. A great way to finish the album, live in the studio. Hope you enjoyed the record!

Gentlemanly Manners
From "Kristi": "What a HUGE difference in talent on American Idol from last year to this year. Jordan would have made the top 5. Blake wouldn't have made the top 12 for sure. Listen to artistic integrity of Archuleta or Cook and then listen to Blake - it's laughable. Glad you were lucky to be in 2006; otherwise you would have been as absent from the public as your album sales and tour (oh yea, um, sorry for mentioning it since there isn't one)."
Blake, the CD is quite ingenious, genuine and artistic. I respect your talent. Kristi is correct that talent tends to change over seasons of American Idol, but manners are timeless (a concept Kristi is oblivious to). You have shown to be a gentleman on stage while interacting with Jordin Sparks, which makes me respect your work even more because I know I am listening to someone real.
